"Dedicated to Belarus..." exhibition

On October 10, 2017, the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus will host the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the birth of photo artist Lev Dashkevich and poet Yanka Kupala.

The exhibition introduces the work of the outstanding Belarusian photo artist of the first third of the twentieth century, Lev Dashkevich, whose name was a real discovery in the history of Belarusian artistic photography.

The originals of photographic works by Lev Dashkevich, made by the master in different manners and techniques from 1900 to 1950, are presented. , as well as personal belongings of the photographer from the collections of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus, and new materials that were found in recent times.

One of the sections of the exhibition is devoted to the friendship and joint work of two outstanding personalities of his time, the Photographer and the Poet – Lev Dashkevich and Yanka Kupala.

The grandson of an outstanding photo artist – Lev Dashkevich Jr. is invited to the opening of the exhibition.

The partners of the exhibition were the Yanka Kupala State Literary Museum, the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences, and the National Library of Belarus.

The exhibition is included in the program of the international festival "Month of Photography in Minsk".

Lev Urbanovich Dashkevich (1882 – 1957) – Belarusian photographer, publicist, educator, scientist, inventor. He was born on February 12, 1882 in Minsk to a family of noblemen – the outward adviser of the Minsk state chamber Urban Kleafasavich and Antonina Ivanovna (nee Krukovskaya) Dashkevich. Educated at the Dijon University and the Graduate School of Graphic Arts in Paris (Department of Photography). The photographer was engaged in teaching activities in a number of educational institutions of Yerevan (Armenia), Ganja (Azerbaijan), Tiflis (Georgia), and then Minsk. Lev Dashkevich was the first in Belarus to develop and read a course of lectures on photography (at the Minsk Institute of Public Education). In addition to professional photography, Lev Urbanavich was engaged in scientific research in the field of radiography, he studied the effect of biological ultraviolet on trophic and tissue regeneration, and as a result developed a unique technique for accelerated healing of wounds.
