A temporary exhibition “1919: Belarusian Republic” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the BSSR and the 95th anniversary of the launch of the Belarusization policy will open in the National History Museum of Belarus on 28 March, BelTA learned from the institution.

The establishment of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic was a milestone in the history, after which the neighboring states were not able to ignore the Belarusians as a political nation. Thanks to this we now live in an independent country. The first quarter of the 20th century was of utmost importance for the development of the Belarusian state in subsequent decades.

The exhibition will show the main documents of the time and will tell about famous political and public figures,” the museum said. The exhibition will feature more than a hundred items from the collections of the National History Museum, the National Library of Belarus, the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art, the KGB Central Archives. Among them are historical documents, originals and facsimiles of the SSRB Constitution and Manifesto of 1919, the Constitution of 1927, household items and personal belongings of politicians.

“The Belarusian Congress was convened in December 1917. Representatives of Belarusian organizations and parties, irrespective of their political affiliation, unanimously supported the idea to set up the Belarusian Council of Peasants', Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies, a local authority consisting of delegates of the Belarusian Congress. This authority was destined to continue the struggle for the Belarusian statehood. “The Council of All-Belarusian Congress, as a body of authority, gave a start to the process of creating a statehood in the form of the Belarusian People's Republic and then in the form of the Socialist Soviet Republic of Belarus. The Manifesto to set up the provisional government of Belarus was adopted on 1 January 1919. This document will be in display as well. Rapid economic development, the territorial consolidation of the state at that time, the widespread policy of Belarusization contributed to the consolidation of the Belarusian nation,” the museum said.

The exhibition will be running till 12 May.
