The National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus was created on 15th December 1956 as the State museum of the Belarusian SSR by decision of the Government of the Belarusian SSR.
But roots and traditions of our museum are much deeper. The National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus is a descendant of the old Belarusian museums from the beginning of XX century (Historical and archeological museum in Minsk, Belarusian ethnographic and historical museum in Vilna etc.). Time has passed, but in different forms and with different names our museum has one principal task: to protect, to study, to present Belarusian history and Belarusian heritage. Now the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus owns the biggest collection in the all republic – more than 450 000 unique treasures of Belarusian history and culture.
The anniversary exhibition «The National Historical: from past – to present day» shows visitors some treasures from our collection – not only famous and well-known, but brand new too (as the heritage of the Belarusian noble families of Oginsky and Chapsky). Also, visitors can see interesting artefacts of the museum`s history – differentphotos, documents, posters, which represent our old exhibitions and projects from the Soviet time till now.
